Liberals against Apartheid a history of the Liberal Party of South Africa

The launch of Randolph Vigne’s book took place at the APC, where he had spent almost a year researching the archives of the Liberal Party of South Africa.  Among the 120 guests were many Liberal Party stalwarts, including Peter and Phoebe Brown, Eddie Daniels from the Western Cape, Mike Ndlovu from Bergville and Jean van Riet from the Free State.

During the speeches, Peter Brown spoke of the banning of many Liberals by the apartheid government and Eddie Daniels spoke of his Robben Island experience and the recorded appreciation of Nelson Mandela for the Liberals’ contribution to the anti-apartheid struggle.  Mike Ndlovu stressed the contribution of the largely black membership of the Party, and Jean van Riet, hale and hearty at 92, regaled guests with his thoughtful humour.
