A group of Social Science students, accompanied by Prof. Settler and fellow lecturers, recently visited the Alan Paton Centre as part of their academic programme. The purpose of the visit was to introduce and train students in archival research by immersing them in the space for the day.

Students engaged directly with archival materials they had requested for their assignments and conducted research in the Centre’s reading area. They also completed a series of structured tasks aimed at building their research skills and familiarity with primary sources.

As part of the experience, Mrs. Sherian Latif, Assistant Researcher at the Centre, led the group on a guided tour of the facility, offering valuable insights into its collections and operations. The visit provided students with hands-on exposure to the use of archives in historical research — an essential component of their academic development.
